Track Name: Miles Checks Out
With a heartbeat as loud as a metronome,
He readied himself to jump
Staring ahead – No looking back
Wondering when he stepped upon the cracks that
Lead him to think the unthinkable,
And where the hell had it all gone wrong
Promises made – endlessly broken
Hoping to string the world along but then those
Thoughts still linger on

When Miles checked out
Too confused to think about the ugly consequence
He did all he could
Every last decision taken for the common good
When he thought about it
If he didn’t take a place before the race began
He wouldn’t even be an also ran

When they said he was unremarkable
It stripped the wind right out of his sails
How could he be anything else
With nowhere to turn when all else failed - he came to
Think that this was the inevitable
Whenever destiny rears her head
The fates had decided, his future subsided
Into some words best left unsaid
But still they echoe round his head

When Miles checked out
Too confused to think about the ugly consequence
He did all he could
Every last decision taken for the common good
and when he stopped to think about it
If he didn’t take a place before the race began
He wouldn’t even be an –

All so strange to feel a disconnection from that goldfish bowl
Everything he dreamed of was denied him
Rolled straight on by him

He stares vacantly at the seagulls crying beneath him
As they swoop beneath the steel of the Humber Bridge

Watch all of your dreams drift on by
Into the clear blue sky
So smile as you wave them goodbye
Then lift up your head
and fly

Saving It All For A Saturday

First one up the brickworks will be captain for the afternoon
The car parks been abandoned now the works have been shut down
A taste in moderation, sister slips into a coma
And she wakes with muddy finger marks beneath her new white blouse
And no wonder all the shops are hiring thugs to gyard te doors
It’s not what the came to the country for
They were hoping for a little bit more than this

Underneath the TV set a stain upon the carpet
Barely covered by the VHS that nobody can work
Empty cans of kestrel by the cigarette burned sofa
Now there’s extra medication every evening down the pub
Oh Lord another mouth to feed that no one can afford
One more to fill the lines and numbers

Oh we’re saving it all for a Saturday
All of the family and everybody else
The weekends coming and I won’t be stopping in
All by myself

Almost 50cc of unbridled teen rebellion
When the boys all ride together to the sound of angry bees
Postman flips a finger to the girl upon the corner
Who’s been hanging out her nighty with her fanny in the breeze
On board the number thirty to the other sound of town
You’re one more among the endless faces

Oh we’re saving it all for a Saturday
All of the family and everybody else
The weekends coming and I won’t be stopping in
All by myself
The weekends coming and I won’t be stopping in
All by myself

Clones by starlight
We’ll be home by sunrise

Oh - saving it all for a Saturday
All of the family and everybody else
The weekends coming and I won’t be stopping in
All by myself
Yeah - Oh we’re saving it all for a Saturday
All of the family and everybody else
The weekends coming and I won’t be stopping in
All by myself
The weekends coming and I won’t be stopping in
All by myself

Getting A License

I feel an ocean coming over my emotional composure
And it won’t stop coming in
I took a taste from out of space
And now I’m wasted - face to face
With everyone I’ve ever been
Taking it all on one day
Sleeping it off ‘til Sunday
Saving the suit ‘til Monday arrives
I’m alive

Ooh oh ooh oh
But I’ll be getting a license
Ooh oh ooh oh
Yeah I’ll be getting a license
It’s what we do, the chosen few
And I’ll be getting a license, getting a license soon

This information keeps me stationery
Rooted to the ground – see how the walls are coming in
Escaping all this mess impossible – everything you know is wrong
Surprise, surprise – you’re on your own again
Taking it all on one day
Sleeping it off ‘til Sunday
Saving the suit ‘til Monday arrives
I’m alive

Ooh oh ooh oh
But I’ll be getting a license
Ooh oh ooh oh
Yeah I’ll be getting a license
It’s what we do, the chosen few
And I’ll be getting a license, getting a license soon

Ahhhhhh……. Ahhhhhh

Back to where it all begins
Strike the band and start again
And I’m gone
But I don’t know where I’ve been

Ooh oh ooh oh
And I’ll be getting a license
Ooh oh ooh oh
Yeah I’ll be getting a license
It’s what we do, the chosen few
And I’ll be getting a license, getting a license soon
