Wildheartsfan80 In my opinion this is the best of the 4 full length albums. Superb instrumentation, musicianship, and lyrics that will make you think about the state of the world. You should buy this and listen to it a lot. The guitar solo on Hope is a highlight for me too. Favorite track: Keeping The Stupid Stupid.

voxpoptart XTC were one of my favorite bands ever: writing lovely yet ambitious and unpredictable melodies, and judgmental but interesting character profiles, then setting them to lush and/or spiky, adventurous arrangements that expanded the boundaries of what "pop song" means. It feels reductionist and unfair to say the Dowling Poole's three records feel to me like having XTC back in their prime. But I love them for similar reasons, anyway; what they're doing isn't easy, but it's delightful. Favorite track: Made In Heaven.

See You, See Me It’s been quite a while - since you got my dander up Could this be time - to reconcile? Why should I hide behind a soul-less pseudo smile? My silent crusade - has fallen by the wayside I’m afraid No new ideas - Cynicism engineering the years Tolerate - I’ll be happy-go-lucky, Accommodate - Scintillating and free Disregard - Put my head in the sand Cos if I can’t see you - you can’t see me Millions retreat The dumbing-down of a nation in defeat We fail to connect Reminding us to give a damn lest we forget Drowning in doubt The optimism of a daydream fizzles out Why bother at all? Salvation renders us dishonourable Just one more thing I’m never short of a brand new song to sing My bright shining star Ba-ba-ba-ba Tolerate - I’ll be happy-go-lucky Accommodate - Scintillating and free Disregard - Put my head in the sand I’m in a haze of ecstasy Tolerate - Forever happy-go-lucky Accommodate - Invigorated are we Disregard - Put my head in the sand Cos if I can’t see you - you can’t see me

The Product 03:19
The Product - Beep Beep - Beep Beep - Beep Beep She brought the rainbow gel - They got the party pack Look in the mirror there’s another megalomaniac We ordered skin and bone - We got a carbon clone See how the power pulls the strings from way behind the throne She got a freaky vibe - In every way contrived Straight out of Disney ‘til she took her first nosedive Her daddy’s showbiz - her momma produces So she’s a shoe in when the money’s where her mouth is She goes slow but there’s nobody knows She goes slow but there’s nobody knows Don’t want to hear she uses - Put makeup on the bruises The gravy train is slow and everybody loses out Put on the Gucci dress and do your best to acquiesce No one needs to find out that the product is in pieces Ooh ooh - the product is in pieces - beep beep They claim she’s squeaky clean - Up on the mezzanine She take a little though she don’t know where the needles been She feel invincible - She irreplaceable She dream the butterfly and cry for the transitional We ordered skin and bone - We got a carbon clone See how the power pulls the strings from way behind the throne She goes slow but there’s nobody knows She goes slow but there’s nobody knows Don’t want to hear she uses - Put makeup on the bruises The gravy train is slowin’ - Everybody loses out Put on the Gucci dress and do your best to acquiesce No one needs to find out that the product is in pieces Best friends with Mr Geller - ‘Cos no one dared to tell her She gets to keep the loony tunes as long as we can sell her This well is almost dried up - Beyond the final shake up Time to wake up now we know the product is in pieces The product is in pieces - The product is in pieces The product is in pieces - The product is in pieces

Hope 03:57
Hope Hope will hold your hand and drag you down Hope is the cruellest one - She’ll keep you hanging on She’ll have you wondering – Where did it all go wrong? She’ll pick you up and then – She’ll cut you down again She enjoys your suffering – The dark comedienne is laughing at you Hope holds the bill to pay - For every word unsaid She spreads the virus wide – Across the living dead Creates the wasted life – Among a billion more They plead and cling to her - Somehow they must endure, they must endure this And when you’re clinging to the rocks for survival She’s the power in the wave that sucks you down A brief second to imagine your revival You’re still thinking that your time will come around Hope makes a fool of you – She lets you show your hand She leaves her pointless clues – That you’ll never understand Hope gives you energy – That is not yours to burn Hope takes a piece of you – And still you never learn You never learn from it There was a rumour everybody made their own luck Perpetrated by the lucky aristocracy Put the money that you borrow on a number For a future that you’re never going to see (Don’t it seem sometimes) That it’s never been fair and the world don’t care No rhyme, nor reason on the road to despair Shame that you came on your own (And don’t it make you wonder) What you gotta do to survive in tact Sell your soul to the devil as a matter of fact So find yourself a way of coping No way just hoping will save you Hope will watch you drown Hope plays a simple trick – She disappears and then She lets you touch her hand – She’s off and on again You scream like Lazarus – Why won’t she leave you dead? Hope says she’s serious – And you’re hanging by a thread And she pulls when she chooses Hope will hold your hand and drag you down Hope will hold your hand and drag you down

Made In Heaven I swear when I tell you this news isn’t fake The president has a proposal to make He looks overseas to the green grass and trees For an equal with whom he can share his beliefs In South West 1A And then he wonders “What if she doesn’t like my cool tan? I can’t take any more rejection” You can’t get by with your head in the sky Gotta make this work -You gotta make this work Y’know you can’t get by knowing you’re gonna die With no-one by your side - So getcha self a bride The love and the control of a hand in marriage made in heaven He’s casing the joint as he plans his first move Before you can think he slips in to her groove He turns on the charm as he amps up the chat “You grab the golf-club and I’ll grab your cat” And here’s what she said “I wanna tell you, I’ve been out - bought myself a new hat And a baseball bat Crack it down on the democrat” You can’t get by with your head in the sky Gotta make this work - You gotta make this work You know you can’t get by knowing you’re gonna die “I need you by my side - Together unified We’re carving out our future as our married bliss is made in heaven” “And then we fell in love” “I can’t get by with my head in the sky Gonna make this work - Gonna make this work ‘Cos I can’t get by knowing I’m gonna die Together with my bride We’ll nuke the other side” We can’t get by knowing we never tried We gotta turn the tide against the certifiable Can’t sit by while you brushing aside These atrocities with a gentle sigh We can’t get by with our heads in the sky Gotta make this work - Gotta make this work Y’know we can’t get by knowing we’re gonna die So raise a final toast and smoke a cigarette And wave goodbye as we all set sail to a myth called heaven

Human Soup 03:19
Human Soup A bitter taste that’s so familiar Something you can’t name A sickly smell that casts a spell But you drink it all the same to feel it Twisting up inside you like a snake thrown down a well Wickedly fast - designed to last You crawl back to your private hell All the girls and boys are there And they’re pleased to watch you fall Fire and brimstone take your breath away and you dissolve Human Soup a natural aphrodisiac Human Soup in fifty shades of black Chilli-Belly shit storm when the people have their say Avoid the pile of fly-crust bile that spews from all the rank and file To fill the cracks that yawn so deeply – Nothing stems the flow This ship is sunk – they’re crazed and drunk They turn to feast upon their own Then all the girls and boys arrive And they’re thrilled to see you fall Fire and brimstone rain into your brain and you dissolve Human Soup a natural aphrodisiac Human Soup in fifty shades of black The undertakers on his way While every voice will have its say Averse to learning - twisting turning When inconvenient facts Get in the way Human Soup’s a natural aphrodisiac Human Soup in fifty shades of black Human Soup’s a natural aphrodisiac Human Soup in fifty shades of black – of black – of black

Alison’s Going Home She pours a coffee - lights a year-old cigarette That’s hidden in a packet in her Grandma’s cabinet She shakes a little as she tries to shut the voices out That nag away accusing her of every failing There behind the grey net curtains She was twelve when her old man was classed as M.I.A. They had to move or lose their small subsistence Her school was broken and relieved to see the back of her Zero hour contracts or a life in crime Was all they had to occupy her She chose the camouflage and jumped the wire Boots down in the sun and the sand Ready to shoot when you don’t understand Those pieces come undone Now Alison’s going home To find herself a safety zone Where she can hide from anger pain And all that makes us inhumane and Alison’s going home To wonder where it all went oh so wrong Summer season in a bleak and cruel Afghanistan Charabanc across the plains of Syria Trying to clean the mess of fools who turned an Ugly situation that was bad To something so much worse Hide behind your grey net curtains She turns the TV on to try and still the memories And settles in to swallow down the armchair medicine Televangelists with Jesus, God and Milton Friedman Screaming “Hallelujah man, We’re on your side” Truth and strength depend on numbers Now she has to shake her head and wonder Boots down in the blood and the sand Ready to shoot what you don’t understand Those pieces come undone Now Alison’s going home She’s gonna find a safety zone Where she can hide from anger pain And all that makes us inhumane Alison’s going home To wonder where it all went oh so wrong (And she wonders where it all went wrong) Alison’s going home To wonder where it all went oh so wrong

Sunrise 03:30
Sunrise Swallowing solace and salvation from the dregs of a downward spiral Dwell on the rise of the so-called ‘wise’ As we dumb down to a tribe more primal Let’s not forget the safety net - the promises to protect and save us Banish the force - revenge, remorse I’ll outrun you if it’s the last thing I do And when I think I’ve won uncertainty reveals itself to me Oh what to do? Guess I’ll have to keep slaving on through While I’m trying to bring on the new And we can beat this so give me the Tranquillity and calm of the sunrise Dictators despair as they declare we’re making waves just to be contrary We’ll never cower from the power of the fraudulent mercenary I ain’t no peace-freak but the threat of war kicks down the door The paisley glow reveals Just how this flower child really feels While the world all around me congeals Like the summer of love in the Serenity and soul of the sunrise And faith is near impossible When all seems lost - implausible And the optimist wins through Now there’s only one thing I can do I’m always trying to bring on the new And maybe nobody’s dreams will come true So I’ll keep moving on To the tranquillity and calm The serenity and soul, The integrity and trust of the few

The Light Dies Down Everyone’s got a box on which to stand Afghan coat with a megaphone in hand Unified - In a new subculture Deep inside - Where the infrastructure lies Intuitive in your capabilities Clambering for a cod philosophy Unified - On a worthy mission Neutralize - Every obstacle in sight Speak the truth - In a ploy to break them Arrogance - Doesn’t always make you right Hard to believe the stupidity From the squalor to the scholars of some university You agitate - you cultivate this atrocity Velocity at maximum -‘til the light dies down Spouting junk in the guise of honesty (Some democracy) Accelerating your profanity (Too in vogue for me) Fight your cause - With a blank agenda No remorse - Gonna crank it up to ten (One louder for me) So profound with your pills and powders Best pipe down - I can shout much louder Your say is the pinnacle of every dull encounter every day Oh you say what you want to get it out there No-one’s listening anyway You gotta have your say Hard to believe the stupidity From the squalor to the scholars of some university You agitate - you cultivate this atrocity Velocity at maximum Until the light dies down and a nation drowns In a cesspool of corruption in the cold hands of The indestructible - the vulnerable Reach for words of consolation for the last time round Until the lights go down once more (Just stop talking)
9.
Keeping The Stupid Stupid Welcome back – We’ve been waiting on a maniac You look a little insomniac And now you’re going to peel the years right back Peel the years right back Well you should have been a soldier – you were ready for a fight But you throw your punches on the page – safely out of sight The best of educations in the good old fashioned way Tell ‘em what they need don’t let the facts get in the way You might say that it’s all institutional And I’m a little over tired and emotional Some day you may be all held accountable Dehumanise, propagandise and history repeats And history repeats – And history repeats One day a rain will come and wash the scum right off the streets Like every psychopath you have no grasp of empathy My oh my – What a criminal twisted lie Your fooling half the people all the time There’s even less to you than meets the eye You’re over amplified And nothing really changes maybe better the devil you know But they’re slowly creeping in on the right and they’re ready to steal the show They raise a flag they claim to own and shed a noble tear They spark the fire, crawl under the wire and swiftly disappear One day a rain will come and wash the scum right off the streets Like every psychopath you have no grasp of empathy Defend the status quo you know it must not be defeated And to protect yourself you try to keep the stupid stupid You try to keep the stupid stupid You try to keep the stupid stupid
10.
The Last Train Home When the surface cracked and the leaks began Could be that none of us was thinking When the villains smiled their joyless grin How strange that some of us were taken in When insanity was normalised We whispered “Someone should be notified” Inhumanity went undisguised Maybe somehow we’re all desensitised We were trading on ‘Trend’ Do the breast-stroke through the bile to the end There were so many battles to fight until all of them melded together as one And if the dust settles the clocks will restart and a fabric of truth will be spun And no one takes the last train home There’s no one on the last train home Into the blue Under the moon and the stars that stare silently Down on the rubble that’s spread on the crust Blink of an eye in the passing of time Just a jumble of ashes to ashes and dust To dust
